I met the Humphrey family a few years ago, after they had just had their third, Elle.  I loved the contentment and affection between all of them as well as the free flowing fun that they had together.  It was so fun to see them lately, and though the kids have all changed so much, those great family dynamics have remained.  John and Charity are seemingly so relaxed in the midst of three little ones.  Here is a look back at this family a few years ago.  And here is a look at now…001Humphreys_2015

I got to photograph Becky and Josh’s wedding early in my days of wedding photography, and they were one of the reasons I began to love weddings.  They are a blast!  They both come from close families, and now they well into building one of their own.  This was the first time that I got to meet baby brother James, who recently turned one.  Take a look at this awesome family…

One of my biggest joys in life is capturing moms and dads with their kids.  It’s common to prioritize the kids in pictures.  They are the “cute” ones.  They are changing so much every year.  As parents, we are tired and maybe have looked better in other seasons of life.  It’s not about us anymore, or that’s what we say.  But for our kids, it IS about us.  We are the center of their world.  And they will treasure the pictures that they have of us as young parents down the road when they try to wrap their heads around their own history and also try to understand where they may be going.

I especially love to capture photographers with their families, because I understand so well the feeling that we are capturing the beauty in other people’s lives all the time, and our moments are passing by unrecorded.  So I was so honored and excited when Rebecca Peters Haas wrote me to ask me to take some portraits of her and her husband and 19 month old daughter Elena.

I loved getting to know this family.  They are laid back loving parents.  They just let Elena do her thing, and they sat back and watched what happened and we all laughed at her hilarious expressions.  Here is are some favorites…

When I walked up to Jennifer and Jayson’s Spanish Colonial home, both the front and back doors were open, with the perfect fall weather breezing through, and I could see that the backyard had a lovely wrought-iron framed koi pond.  I felt like I was on vacation.  Then I saw two little pugs scurry by, and finally sweet 13 month old Gretta.  We spent some time at their beautiful home, and then ventured to a park and a few other special places in their lives.  Here are some highlights

Oh how I love this family.  Sarah, Matt, and Annabelle are eagerly awaiting the arrival of baby brother this fall.  I got to capture that sacred little window of life just as it is now.  Their bubble-blowing and hide and seek time on the front lawn, their nightly evening walks.  Here is a look into our time together.  And here is a look back at life with this family the past few years…expecting their first, Annabelle’s arrival, and the family 1 year ago.
